LA BOLSA - Guatemala

LA BOLSA - Guatemala

Smooth & Balanced

Roast - Light

Great For - Filter, Aeropress, French Press

I am always on the lookout for a good Guatemala coffee! Alchemy Coffee in London always had standout washed Guatemalas that I still look back on so fondly. I loved making espresso with them during my time at Coffee at 33. This roast from Finca La Bolsa has turned out really light and delicate, and it made a delicious filter coffee in the shop this morning. You'll love it if you enjoy brewing soft, delicate, tea-like pour overs at home. It's chocolatey, but with a lovely dried fruit character too, reminding me of raisins and fresh plums.

Story

Finca La Bolsa has been producing exceptional speciality coffee in the mountains of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, since 1958. Today, the third generation of the Vides family continues that work, combining decades of experience with a genuine commitment to both quality and sustainability.

Surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes, La Bolsa is much more than a coffee farm. The Vides family have invested heavily in the local community by supporting education, healthcare and long-term employment, helping create opportunities that extend far beyond coffee production.

I first bought coffee from the Vides family since 2019, making this one of my longest-standing sourcing relationships. Over the years they've consistently produced coffees that are sweet, elegant and beautifully clean, while sharing the same values I believe great speciality coffee should represent: looking after people, caring for the environment and never compromising on quality.

It's coffees and partnerships like this that remind me why I started Freda. Building long-term relationships with producers means I can keep sharing coffees that I genuinely love drinking, while knowing exactly where they've come from and the people behind every cup.
