Washed Peru coffees have been tasting fantastic over the past few years. I couldn't tell you what's happened. Is it just climate change? Whatever it is, they've been tasting as clean and exciting as Kenyans when they're in season. This coffee is brewing beautifully as a V60 and other filter coffees. I've been especially loving it on the Orea Z1 at home.

Story

This Peru speciality coffee is produced by a network of smallholder farmers in the mountains around Jaén, in the Cajamarca region of northern Peru. Growing at high altitude in rich volcanic soils, with plenty of tropical rainfall and warm days, the region has all the ingredients needed to produce beautifully clean and expressive Arabica coffee.

Most of the producers harvest and process their coffee on their own farms using traditional hand-pulping machines, fermentation tanks and carefully managed drying patios or raised beds. Once the coffee has been dried, it is delivered to Falcon's quality control centre in Jaén, where every lot is checked for moisture, graded and professionally cupped before export.

Over the past few years, Falcon has invested heavily in the region, building drying facilities and a dedicated quality control lab to help farmers produce more consistent, higher-quality coffee. By offering immediate feedback, cup scores and transparent pricing, producers are rewarded directly for the quality of the coffee they grow.

The result is a coffee that not only tastes fantastic in the cup, but also supports a more transparent and sustainable supply chain from farm to roaster. It's exactly the sort of thoughtfully sourced single origin coffee I love buying and roasting.
